“And suddenly you just know its time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings”
Starting afresh is not new to me. In fact, for the past couple of years, that’s what I have done. Since I moved to the United States to begin college, my experience in this new country has been chock full of new beginnings and adventures. Experiences that have made me who I am.
The last time I was on here, I was nervous about graduating and what comes next. I think I even wrote a couple of posts about my nerves and aspirations if you wanna read some more here. In that post, I talked about my excitement for graduation and also my nervousness about what could possibly come next. That was in April… and in April, I had no clue how things would turn out. I did not know if I would pass my exams and actually graduate. I did not know if I would get a job before beginning my master’s program… I was sort of hopeful at that point but still lost. I think my dominant emotion at that point was fear, fear of the unknown. Things have definitely changed now… and lord what a difference a couple of months can make.
First things first, let’s address the elephant in the room… *drumroll please*
Yes! I actually start my graduate school program in late August! I will be majoring in Peace, and Conflict analysis at a fantastic college that was, in fact, one of my top choices and I will be attending grad school with almost all my expenses paid for (blog post on this soon). For those who don’t understand what a graduate program is, it is merely a masters degree after the completion of a bachelors degree! I have gotten a lot of questions about why I chose to immediately continue my education rather than get a job and if you guys are interested in my reasons for doing this let me know in the comments, and I would write a blog post on my choices as well!
If you follow me on the ‘gram you’d also know that I moved cities. My graduate program was not in the same school that I did my undergraduate degree in, and so I had to uproot my life just a bit and move to the DMV area. For my folks not from the U.S. the DMV area is the District of Columbia (capital of the U.S.), Maryland and Virginia. Moving cities also mean more ways to explore and more content for you guys hopefully! I have already made so many new friends, and I love this area so I can’t wait to continue sharing this incredible journey with you all.
I’ve kinda fallen in love. Quickly too. I fell in love with the cool wind as I walked through my new campus in the evenings. I fell in love with the way people smiled at me as if they knew I was new to this. Yes, I fell in love. It is surreal how hopeful I am about this new beginning. I can taste my happiness, and I can feel the butterflies in my tummy. It’s an incredible feeling to have this one. So cheers to new chapters, everyone.
And… that’s pretty much it for me right now. Starting a new job, school and further city exploration *whew* that’s not a lot at all! I am actually pretty excited and pumped about where I am headed and what is in store for me. I hope you guys enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing! Let me know what you’d like for me to write about soon, and I’d try my best!
Love, Sofi 🙂

The D.C. area (or DMV which I’d never heard of) is beautiful. It’s the perfect place to focus on a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Analysis because of all the embassies.

Congratulations ! All so beautiful
Congrats Sofi!! Amazingly, I start grad school this August in the DMV too! Cheers to new chapters!
Congratulations and good luck on your grad school journey! I went immediately after graduating, like three weeks after graduating! LOL! I really think with me returning so quickly, it helped with me keeping that momentum I may have lost had I taken a break. Plus, if I’m being completely honest, I didn’t have any job offers after undergrad and I didn’t want to uproot my family and move away from my support system. That created a lot of fear in me.
Can’t wait to read more content about your adventures in the DMV area!
